Marco Simoncelli Saat Terjatuh Dari Motornya dan Suasana di Paddock # 2
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEPANG - MotoGP Sepang, Malaysia, dipastikan resmi dibatalkan sepenuhnya dan sisa putaran (18 dari 20 putaran) tidak dimainkan. Ini lantaran semua tim medis sedang fokus sepenuhnya untuk menangani Marco Simoncelli, yang terjatuh di putaran kedua.
Simoncelli terjatuh, helmnya terlepas dan motornya terlempar menghantam sekaligus menjatuhkan pebalap Colin Edward dan pebalap Ducati, Valentino Rossi. Edward juga jatuh lantaran motornya dihantam motor Simoncelli yang bergerak liar, namun mampu bangkit.
Pebalap MotoGP Gresini Honda asal Italia, Marco Simoncelli akhirnya meninggal setelah kecelakaan di Sirkuit Sepang, Malaysia, Minggu (23/10/11). Demikian pengumuman resmi seperti dikutip AFP. "Ini resmi. Dia sudah meninggal. Dia menyerah," ujar seorang pejabat dari Dorna yang merupakan perusahaan pemegang hak siar MotoGP.Kecelakan yang melibatkan Marco Simoncelli, Colin Edwards, dan Valentino Rossi, juga membuat GP Malaysia musim 2011 secara resmi dibatalkan.
